Micky started into showbuisness at a young age, most likely under the influence from his family. Both his parents were already performing when he was born. At the young age of six , known then as Micky Braddock, he landed the role of Corky in the 1950s show "Circus Boy." He was the cute little bugger that rode around on the elephant a lot. He and his elephant "Bimbo" toured doing tricks to promote the show. After the show had been cancelled Micky focused his attention on music by joining many night club bands. He was lead vocalist in the cover band.
In 1965, due to the fact that he had already had his own series, Micky was given an audition to Bob Rafelson and Bert Scneider, the creators of the Monkees. He was hired along with Peter Tork, Davy Jones, and Michael Nesmith. Together they formed a group that would become a smash in only a short period of time. Though he had never played the drums before, he was cast as the drummer for the group. With a little aid and time he fell easily into the part. Though it was odd for the band's drummer to sing songs, Micky held the lion's share, along with Davy, for many of the Monkees first albums. As the Monkees television series became more popular and their songs started selling bigger numbers Micky decided to stop straightening his hair and let it go back to being naturally curly. A shock I'm sure at first to may of the fans, but soon after it became his trademark. "Fuzzy Wuzzy" was a hit from 1966 to 1968 until the show was cancelled. |
After the shows was cancelled Micky decided to head to the cartoon circuit, lending his voice to such popular series as "Funky Phantom," "The Scooby-Doo Movies," and other Hanna-Berbera cartoons. His solo singing career flourished as well with many popular singles. He even got to travel in Japan in 1980 to promote them. Micky joined up with his old pal Davy Jones in 1975 along with song writers Boyce and Hart, who had written many of the Monkees hits, to tour once again. They sold out at numerous cities before releasing their own self-titled album.
Before the Monkees show ended Micky had asked to direct the final show entitled "The Frodis Caper." After his touring days were over his interest turned to directing again and for the next ten years he lived in England directing for the BBC. By now he was going under the name "George Dolenz." He attempted in 1984 to get an advanced degree in Physics, but was unsuccessful due to the Monkees 20th Anniversary tour. Due to the tour's success he joined Peter and Davy and recorded a new album and released two videos while still touring in 1987 and again in 1989. He finished up touring upon his return as a USA resident in 1990s, but not before putting out a few more albums called "Micky Dolenz Puts You to Sleep" and "Broadway Micky."

Again lending his voice to cartoons Micky voiced Arthur in the FOX cartoon "The Tick." He also replaced Davy and did a brief stint as DJ Vince Fontaine in the off-broadway production of "Grease." Micky toured with Davy once again in 1995 and did a Pizza Hut commercial with him, Peter, and Ringo Starr of the Beatles. He's made many guest appearances on shows like "Pacific Blue", "Boy Meets World", and "Politically Incorrect."
In 1996 Micky once again headed for the open road with his pals and toured to promote a new albums that the Monkees had released called "Justus." He starred in their new television special on ABC as well. However, Micky was no longer just the groups drummer, he spent as much time behind the drums as he did up front with his guitar.
